EMDR Therapy

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a structured therapeutic approach used to help people process the effects of traumatic or distressing experiences.

When something overwhelming has not been fully processed at the time, it can remain “unresolved” in the brain, body, and nervous system. This can lead to ongoing difficulties such as intrusive memories, heightened anxiety, emotional overwhelm, or a sense that the past is still affecting the present.

EMDR works by supporting the brain’s natural ability to process these experiences. Using bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements or tapping), EMDR helps the brain to reprocess distressing memories so they can be integrated in a way that feels less intense and less disruptive.

EMDR is widely recognised as a safe and effective approach when used appropriately, and is always delivered at a pace that feels manageable and supportive.

A course of EMDR usually includes:

  • Building stability and coping resources

  • Identifying specific memories or experiences to work on

  • Processing these experiences in a structured and contained way

  • Supporting integration so that changes are maintained over time

EMDR is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) as a treatment for PTSD. Research also shows it can be helpful for a range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, grief, OCD, and specific phobias.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) is a structured, evidence-based approach that focuses on how patterns of thinking and behaviour can influence how you feel.

At times, these patterns can become unhelpful or difficult to shift — leading to cycles of worry, low mood, self-doubt, or avoidance that can affect day-to-day life and make it harder to engage in the things that matter to you.

CBT works by helping you to recognise and understand these patterns, and to explore alternative ways of responding. This might involve gently challenging unhelpful thoughts, developing new ways of approaching situations, and building practical strategies to support change over time.

CBT is widely recognised as a safe and effective approach for a range of difficulties, including:

  • Depression

  • Generalised anxiety

  • Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)

  • Panic

  • Specific phobias

  • Post-traumatic stress

  • Body dysmorphic disorder

  • Health anxiety

  • Low self-esteem

In my work, CBT is often used alongside other approaches to support both understanding and practical change, helping you to feel more able to manage what you’re experiencing in day-to-day life.

Client experience

Danielle supported me through EMDR therapy over a two-year period (with a break in between), guiding me with exceptional care, expertise, and professionalism throughout. Despite sessions being held online, she created a space that felt safe, contained, and deeply supportive, allowing trust to build and the work to progress at a manageable pace.

I came to therapy with an existing phobia around my neck, which significantly intensified as I began to process memories of trauma. As these memories surfaced, so did a deeper understanding of where the phobia had come from, which at times made everyday situations overwhelming. Even seeing someone wearing a scarf or necklace could trigger panic attacks, making it difficult to be around others or leave the house.

Danielle’s skill in working with EMDR, alongside her calm and compassionate approach, meant that I was able to face and process these experiences and others safely. She adapted the work to meet my needs, ensuring I always felt supported, even during the most challenging moments. Her ability to hold both the emotional depth of the work and provide practical strategies made a real difference.

What stands out most is Danielle’s combination of deep clinical knowledge and genuine care. She equipped me with tools that extended far beyond our sessions, enabling meaningful progress in daily life
.

Thanks to her support, I have reached a point I never thought possible. Recently, I was able to undergo a medical procedure on the front of my neck while fully awake, something that would have been unimaginable before. This reflects not only the effectiveness of EMDR, but Danielle’s expertise in guiding the process safely and effectively.

Danielle’s work has had a profound and lasting impact, and I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone considering EMDR therapy.
