About me
With dreams of being a criminal profiler I completed a BSc in Psychology and Criminology in 1997 shortly followed by an MSc in Forensic Psychology and a 4 year career in a high secure forensic setting. Here, I learnt so much about the reality of human suffering, mental illness and how to relate to individual distress in a way that no book can teach you.
I soon discovered my passion for therapy and in tune with the changing landscape of psychological therapies, completed my Post-Graduate Diploma in Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy in 2010. What followed was a 15 year adventure in the NHS. As a CBT therapist, supervisor, group facilitator, trainer and manager, I have grown, changed and honed my skills to be the therapist I am today.
The therapist part of me is only one part however. There are many other parts!
Just over 10 years ago, I paused and dived head first to explore another part of me - the explorer. As I travelled around the globe, I discovered a lot about my own resilience, people and culture, what is and is not within my control and what I wanted to prioritise in life.
My life experiences changed my therapeutic practice a lot. I noticed a shift from protocol to person, from capacity to connection and compassion. I slowed down, took a breath.
Now I try my best to really balance my therapist and explorer parts with my mum, wife, daughter, sister, friend, part-time yogi and nature loving parts.
I have learnt through my own ups and downs that pain and adversity are often unavoidable but we do not have to walk the road alone. If you are ready to start your therapy journey, and think I could be the right companion to walk beside you, please get in touch.
